Assessment Literacy for Therapists, Counselors, and Allied Professionals

Most therapists and counselors work alongside assessment reports without ever being taught how or why those evaluations are conducted, what questions they are designed to answer, or how to translate test findings into meaningful clinical support. This introductory course provides a clear, accessible overview of psychological assessment as a distinct discipline; how it differs from counseling, intake, and symptom tracking, and what kinds of clarity it can provide.

Participants will learn why assessment exists and how comprehensive evaluations examine cognition, attention, learning, processing, and functioning across domains rather than focusing solely on symptoms or diagnoses. The course also offers practical guidance on how to support clients and patients in understanding the process and their psychological reports, identify what information is most clinically relevant, and use assessment findings to better support clients without stepping outside one’s scope of practice.

This training is designed for clinicians who want to collaborate more effectively with evaluators, make sense of reports their clients bring into therapy, and understand how assessment can inform treatment, accommodations, and life planning.
